TILES
Glazed tiles are well known for not having
any surface porosity. This absence of capillarity,
which gives tiles a certain ease of maintenance,
makes them a good choice for all places
with a high risk of grease or liquid splashes.
Corridors, communal areas, kitchens, restaurants,
technical food areas, laboratories, swimming
pools, wet rooms, etc…
ORIGIN OF
THE PROBLEMS
In terms of maintenance, tiles face various
problems the first of which is lime scale.
Each time it is washed, and the residual
water has evaporated the floor is coated
with a lime scale residue; a film which
hides the shine of the tiles
Problems manifest themselves as follows
:
1° - lime scale deposits
2° - grease marks
3° - stains
4° - floor cloth which no longer slides
5° - encrusted gaps between tiles
SOLUTIONS
Attack the problem “at source” by destroying
the lime scale. BASIC SYSTEM®
has developed a procedure as well as a chemical
which protects the characteristics of the
materials to restore the original shine
of tiles.
TERRA
COTTA AND OTHER POROUS MATERIALS
Terra cotta, sandstone and other natural
materials of the same nature add to the
authenticity and warmth of premises, both
inside and out.
|
ORIGIN
OF THE PROBLEMS
1° - The capillarity of this type of material
often means any liquids coming up from the
screed (after it has been laid or following
flooding) are taken in. This can make saltpetre
rise and also cause cement bloom. Similarly,
these materials absorb all liquids spilt
on its surface
2° - Other difficulties are directly linked
to daily maintenance: stains and grease
are virtually impossible to remove; floors
become scaled and encrusted or take on a
cloudy aspect; grouting becomes discoloured.
SOLUTIONS
1 a - inside and outside,
The material should be sealed to block the
capillarity, making it hydrophobic and oleophobic.
Outside, such a treatment has the additional
value of preventing moss and lichen growth.
These treatments, which are totally invisible,
in no way alter the aspect or the structure
of the materials..
1 b - inside only, The surface
can be protected by using sealing products
which reduce maintenance, or by using natural
wax requiring more regular upkeep.
2° - - For renovation, all lime scale, cement
bloom and deposits must be removed mechanically
together with the appropriate chemical.
BASIC SYSTEM a développé
des produits à très haute
perfiormance et des méthodologies respectueuses
de l'intégrité des matériaux tant pour les
revêtements neufs qu'en rénovation des anciens
supports.
CONCRETE
SCREED
Concrete screed is frequently used in workshops,
car parks, garages, cellars, etc… It is
often imperfect and rough. .
|
ORIGIN
OF THE PROBLEMS
Without treatment, the rough screed has
a grainy surface generating very fine dust
on abrasion. Its very porous nature leads
to the penetration of liquids and fatty
substances
SOLUTIONS
Floor paints are one solution to these problems.
However, BASIC SYSTEM®
has developed an alternative which is far
less expensive. This solution firstly consists
of sanding the concrete screed to remove
the surface imperfections. On sanded or
rough surfaces, and inside only, BASIC
SYSTEM® then recommends an acrylic
sealing product in an aqueous phase to ensure:
1° - dust no longer being produced.
2° - resistance to chemical
agents.
3° - sealing the concrete thus
making its upkeep easier
Final aspect: as the product has no colour,
the aspect of the surface will be that of
damp concrete.
Cost: The cost of the applied product is
about a third of floor paint.
Advantages in comparison
to floor paint :
1° - Low cost
2° - Speed and ease of use. The product
can be applied in three layers on humid
floors by spraying
3° - Drying time between coats reduced to
2 hours
4° - Solvent free, odourless
5°- Ease of maintenance
6° - Excellent mechanical and chemical resistance
7° - Possible removal by scouring (whereas
floor paints require shot blasting)
8° - Excellente résistance chimique
9° - - Easy re-coating; following cleaning,
it is easy to apply one or two more coats
Disadvantages
: - Resistance over time slightly less than
with paint
